The rooster or phoenix resides in the south and stands for birth and rebirth. Encompassing both support and shelter the black tortoise lives in the north and is often depicted as a mountain. Upon his back he carried Lo Shu out of the River Lo. The sacred numbers form a flying star. Bamboo, the first of three friends of winter represents endurance. 16 of the 64 hexagrams.
